Toombullup

Tolmie leads to Toomullup State Forest with excellent camping.

Tolmie is on the C521 northeast of Mansfield. This is where one finds the C517 heading north to Toombullup State Forest, in the form of a dirt road. Coming from Benalla, head south on the C517 via Tatong, which is a sealed road to Tatong.

Two camping areas along the C517 are available. Toombullup School Site camp area is 6km north of Tolmie. It is small with a toilet that has seen better days, but may well be more private, as most campers head for Stringybark Creek Campground, 5km further up the road, which is huge with good campsites and thus very popular.

Stringybark Creek Campground has a large fenced off area in the middle with well set out campsites set around the outside. Good quality concrete based fireplaces are dotted around. The toilets are good here.

A track leads the Kelly Tree where Ned and his gang got into trouble with the law. The short walking track circuit is worth doing.

The history around here is very interesting and worth seeking out.
