Pigs Point is a good little camp site south of Tallangatta, by the Mitta Mitta River.
Pigs Point Reserve is 9 km south of Tallangatta, which is a nice little town to pick up supplies. It is an agreeable little spot for dog travel along the C543 to Omeo, sitting beside the Mitta Mitta River.
Simple yet clean toilet facilities are provided as well as bins. There is shade, but beware of falling branches. No phone reception here for Telstra.
The river is great for a dip, with easy access and some nice little beaches.
A car track to the bank of the river makes for a natural boat ramp.
Your guide-book may state no dogs, but this does not seem to be the case. The local ranger assured me the only reserve that is dog free is the nature reserve along the Murray River just east of Jingellic. No signs are here stating ‘no dogs’ either.
Even if you are not going to Omeo, this spot is worth the detour.
The locals come here just for a picnic, a float down the river or simply a change of scenery.
