Eungella Dam

Camping by Eungella Dam on the slopes leading to the huge body of water is great for dog travel and boaties.

Eungella Dam is a good one for fishing and swimming. It has plenty of room for the dogs at the dam and the surrounding area.

Situated in the hinterland of Mackay, this area has pockets of beautiful rainforest. Beware the coffee houses though, especially in the rain forest around Finch Hatton.

The climb up the range is very steep. Make sure your vehicle is up to it. Mine wasn’t on the first attempt! The 20km or so of dirt road to Eungella Dam is pretty good.

The waters edge around Eungella Dam is reasonably flat, with the slope getting steeper as one heads towards the facilities.

The toilets are clean and the showers are good, although cold water only.

The honesty box asks for $5 per night.

It can get a bit windy, particularly at night on the northern shore.

If you have a boat or water toys of any sort, this is a place to have loads of fun.
